HAVE YOU DONE YOUR MID-YEAR AUDIT?

Now that it's mid-January, treasurers should be preparing their PTA records and getting ready to submit them to their PTA auditor.

If you don’t have an auditor at your unit, contact your council or district to see if they can assist. To read our handy five-step guide to a successful audit, click here.

ATTEND A MOCK ELECTION MEETING

Chairing an election meeting can be a scary task. If you feel like you could use a little help and guidance, join the Leadership Team during our mock election meeting on Tuesday, March 2nd at 7:00 p.m.

We'll demonstrate the proper procedure for electing a nominating committee, presenting a slate of officers, and electing and handling nominations from the floor.

DON'T FORGET TO REGISTER FOR LEG CON 2021!

California State PTA's first-ever all-virtual Legislation Conference is taking place on February 8-9, 2021. We encourage you to attend – it is open to any PTA member interested in improving the lives of children and families in their communities, and across the state. We hope you will join us for this new and exciting format!

Everyone who registers will automatically be entered into our contest, and 10 randomly selected registrants will win a visit from our Director of Legislation or another member of our legislation team to present or answer questions on one of your upcoming virtual unit, council, or district meetings.

Here's a sneak peek at some of the confirmed speakers at the conference, whose theme is "A Path to Equity":

  • Michael Essien - Principal of Martin Luther King, Jr. Academic Alternative Middle School who along with his dedicated staff helped move a troubled urban middle school toward success.

  • Leaders of the African American, Latino, API, Jewish, Women's and LGBTQ Caucuses will talk about how they set their priorities as it relates to children and families, and how they are thinking about opportunity, access and equity.

  • Perennial favorites Kevin Gordon of Capitol Advisors Group and Jeff Bell of the California Department of Finance, joined by Chris Hoene from the California Budget and Policy Center will talk about the budget. John Fensterwald from EdSource will moderate this panel to help us understand how the state budget impacts equity.

The cost to attend is $50 per person. For the registration link and further information, visit the Leg Con page on the California State PTA website.

Teachers Matter is checkpoint #4 on the 2020-21 Membership Drive.

SKYONE'S UNIT PERK OFFER HAS BEEN EXTENDED!

California State PTA is excited to announce that the deadline to take advantage of SkyOne Federal Credit Union's Unit Perk offer has been extended to March 31, 2021! This amazing perk can help your PTA unit raise funds and recruit (or retain) members.

Here's how it works: If your PTA opens an organizational account, SkyOne will donate $1000 to your PTA for every 10 members who open individual SkyOne accounts - plus, SkyOne will reimburse those members' PTA membership dues for the first year! (Please note that you must have your association's approval before opening a bank account.)

CHHSA MASTER PLAN FOR EARLY LEARNING AND CARE

The California Health and Human Services Agency (CHHSA) recently released the Master Plan for Early Learning and Care: California For All Kids.

This plan will help the state better understand the crisis families, children and early learning and care providers are facing amid the COVID-19 pandemic and identifies key policy goals to ensure that all California children can thrive physically, emotionally and educationally in their early years through access to high-quality early learning and care programs.

These goals include universal preschool, enhanced workforce development and equitable career pathways for educators and caregivers, and funding reforms to promote equitable access to high-quality early learning and care.

You can find a quick overview of the plan and download the full report as well at https://californiaforallkids.chhs.ca.gov.
